Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) June 28, 2006 -- Well-known television actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, The Adventures of Old Christine) and actor/comedian George Lopez (The George Lopez Show) have joined forces with Parents' Action for Children (the non-profit organization founded by actor/director, Robert Reiner) to host a new video aimed at helping parents reverse the dangerous rise in childhood obesity.

Alarming news reports about the obesity epidemic can be anxiety-producing and confusing for many parents. "Food and Fitness Matter: Raising Healthy, Active Kids" cuts through the information clutter and gives parents the information they need to fight childhood obesity, from the newborn years through the teen years.

Food and Fitness Matter features health and nutrition experts, including former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, and celebrity TV chef Jamie Oliver, who explain the causes and consequences of childhood obesity, and present practical ways parents can improve diet and physical fitness in their homes, schools and communities.

Produced by Parents' Action for Children, the non-profit organization founded by actor/director Rob Reiner in 1997, the 24-minute video is available for $14.95 suggested retail price in either English or Spanish from http://www.parentsactionstore.org.

The English version is hosted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, best known for her role as Elaine on "Seinfeld" and now the star of the new sitcom, "The Adventures of Old Christine".

Louis-Dreyfus, the mother of two school-age boys. says "Food and Fitness Matters shows the exciting changes that can occur when parents and schools take a few simple steps to create healthier environments for children."

The Spanish version is hosted by George Lopez, producer and star of the long-running "The George Lopez" TV show, who was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Lopez, the father of a young daughter, says Food and Fitness Matter "presents Latino parents with facts and recommendations they can use to create healthy habits that will last a lifetime."

Food and Fitness Matter is the latest addition to the I Am Your Child video series, produced by Parents' Action for Children. The series includes 12 videos that provide practical guidance to parents, caregivers and educators on critical early childhood and health issues. Each video is hosted by popular celebrities and features well-known experts.

Food and Fitness Matter is priced at $14.95 on either DVD or VHS. Substantial discounts are available for quantity purchases to encourage broad use.

A free, downloadable Companion Guide is also available for those who want to use the video to jumpstart discussions with parents on ways to prevent childhood obesity. It includes an overview of the issues covered in the video, as well as suggested questions for discussion, fact sheets and handouts to distribute to parents.
