Singer/Songwriter Nijole Sparkis’s Flash Music Video Goes From ‘Net to Cable TV
A short Flash animation created for the Internet by ambient world/pop singer/songwriter Nijole (pronounced Neola) Sparkis, using her inspirational travel photography and a dreamy track from her “Parallel Universe” CD, got the attention of Comcast Cable’s latest Select On Demand mood-elevating visual music offering, Harmony Channel, where a full-length version is being broadcast throughout August and September 2006.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 3, 2006 – Aug/Sept. 2006 - When ambient world/pop singer/songwriter Nijole (pronounced Neola) Sparkis used Macromedia’s Flash animation software to create a short Internet-targeted music video, little did she realize it would be picked up by Comcast Cable Network’s latest Select On Demand Music offering, Harmony Channel. The video combines Sparkis’s inspirational travel photography with her song “In My Dreams” from her “Parallel Universe” CD, and will be broadcast on Comcast cable television for the months of August and September 2006.
Having originally created the Flash animation as a short 2-minute Internet promo piece for her album, Sparkis was contacted by Harmony Channel’s Program Director Kate McCallum to create a full-length 4-1/2 minute broadcast quality version. Since Sparkis’s song featured not only her haunting vocal sound and ambient guitar production, but also spiritual themes and lyrics, the video fit Harmony’s “Digital Spa On Demand” mission of offering visual music that evokes positive mood elevation in the viewer.
“I was asked to expand on some of the spiritual imagery I had touched on in my animation, so that it would fit into one of Harmony’s 7 mood zones, the ‘Spirit Zone’, which delivers ‘inspirational themes from the global family’. I had to quickly learn all about Broadcast Safe areas, frame rates, aspect ratios, interlace flicker – and deliver a full-length video by Harmony’s broadcast deadline within the week,” says Sparkis of her process. “It’s exciting, though – being a part of cutting-edge technology that brings together the online world with the broadcast world – it’s a glimpse into the future of Internet programming possibilities, especially the On Demand aspect of it.”
The theme behind Sparkis’s “In My Dreams” video is to follow your dreams, and it features inspirational photos that she took on her travels through 6 different U.S. states and 5 different countries including Egypt and Mexico. The bridge section of the song features Lithuanian folkloric singing and is accompanied by photos from her parents’ homeland of Lithuania during a Folkloric Dance Festival which incorporates ancient pagan traditions.
Sparkis’s unique Flash video can be found on Comcast’s Select On Demand feature, under the MUSIC category, by choosing Harmony Channel and entering the Spirit Zone, now through the end of September 2006. The original Internet version, as well as two other short Flash promos Sparkis created are posted on her website at http://www.nijolesparkis.com, as well as samples of other songs from her album. Sparkis’s songs have been featured on Los Angeles’s #1 Classic Rock radio station, 95.5 KLOS-FM by legendary underground DJ Jim Ladd. Her CD “Parallel Universe” is also being sold on the Harmony Channel website at http://www.harmonychannel.com, besides being available at CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon.com. Sparkis recently wrote and recorded vocals for 2 CD projects to be released next year which will also feature Jon Anderson, lead singer of rock super-group “Yes”.
