New Consumer Medical Newapaper Launched in Florida

Doctors Health Journal, a new consumer medical newspaper has been launched in the South Tampa Bay, Florida region. It is an advertising-supported monthly with an initial mailed circulation of 25,000.

Lakewood Ranch, FL (PRWEB) February 1 2004--The first edition of Doctors Health Journal (DHJ) a consumer health newspaper, was published in Manatee and Sarasota counties in southwest Florida on January 20th, 2004. The monthly newspaper for health consumers will be the flag ship of the Doctors Health Journal brand, a multi-media consumer medical publishing venture by Media Performance Group, Inc.

Aimed at consumers, the monthly medical newspaper editorial content combines national and local coverage. Areas emphasized include medical breakthroughs and issues, lay summaries of important medical journal articles, healthy restaurant reviews, analysis and opinions by physicians and other health practitioners, local health events and local medical news and photographs.

The first issue was 24 tabloid-sized newspaper pages, predominantly in color, and was mailed free to 25,000 residences, mostly in East and Central Manatee County and Northern Sarasota County. The advertising-supported publication is printed in Bradenton, Florida and mailed in Sarasota, Florida.

DHJ joins Doctors Health Journal Radio (currently heard on WTMY AM in Sarasota on Thursday mornings at 11:00 am), the Doctors Health Journal Forums and http://www.doctorshealthjournal.com as DHJ-branded media.

The newspaper is also available on the web site in .pdf form (http://www.doctorshealthjournal.com/back_issues.htm) and back issues will be archived. A pilot for Doctors Health Journal TV is also currently under development in collaboration with a local public television network.

The publisher and executive editor is Jeffrey R. Orenstein, Ph.D., former executive editor of the Gulf Coast Business Review and the Lakewood Ranch Around the Ranch newspaper. Gail Cameron Somodi is the Senior Editor and Cathleen Shaw is the Layout Editor. Anila Jain, M.D. is the chairperson of the Doctors Health Journal Medical Advisory Board.
