Group IV Semiconductor Appoints Bruce Day and Louis P. Desmarais to Board of Directors

Group IV Semiconductor, the silicon light company, today announced that Bruce Day and Louis. P. Desmarais have been appointed to the company's Board of Directors.

Group IV is developing a revolutionary silicon-based solid-state lighting technology for the creation of low-cost, widely available and energy-efficient light bulbs. By exploiting the materials and manufacturing economies of workhorse silicon fabrication processes, Group IV plans to overcome the very high cost barriers that have prevented widespread adoption of solid-state lighting technology to date.

Bruce Day sits on the Board of JDS Uniphase, a US$1.5 billion manufacturer of fiber optic components and telecommunications equipment. He was formerly Vice President, Corporate Development of Rogers Communications Inc. where he was primarily involved in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and taxation for Rogers Communications Inc. and its subsidiaries. Bruce sits on the board of Integrated Asset Management Corp., and has more than 20 years of experience in senior posts in corporate development, finance and treasury.

Louis Desmarais is General Partner and CEO of Garage Technology Ventures Canada. He has many years of experience as a venture capitalist including several years as General Partner of Skypoint Capital Corporation.

Mr. Desmarais was also Partner in Wynnchurch Capital, a $200 million private equity firm. Group IV will also benefit from Mr. Desmarais' knowledge of the financial services sector and his work with many early stage technology companies.
