“The Enemy,” the second digital motion picture written and directed by award winning writer, Dean J. Augustin, has been selected for screening at the 2004 Texas Film Festival, February 16th through the 21st.

The Texas Film Festival began in 1993 to help educate the students of Texas A&M and the people of Texas about the importance of film as an art form. In the past, The Texas Film Festival has hosted films and filmmakers such as Malcolm X (Spike Lee), Dancer, Texas Pop. 81 (Tim McCanlies), Swimming with Sharks (George Huang), El Mariachi (Robert Rodriguez), The Long & Short Of It (Sean Astin), Like Water For Chocolate, and Il Postino.

“It’s truly an honor to be included in the Texas Film Festival,” says Augustin. “Every year independent film is becoming more ‘dependent’ on distribution controlled by major studios. Without festivals like the Texas Film Festival work like mine may never be seen by the public,” according to the award-winning writer.

From the Rape of Nanking to the interment of Japanese Americans, “The Enemy,” explores the unique parallels between the Citizens of the Empire of Japan, and Japanese Americans during the Second World War. Using archive film footage, and original audio recordings, The Good Fight – Digital Motion Pictures recreates the hysteria and fear surrounding “the enemy.”

“The Enemy” was created on a desktop computer using over-the-counter video editing software. The 33-minute documentary was produced entirely from Internet sources. “I was looking for a fusion of technology with the ‘roots’ of independent film and video,” says the Plano, Texas, based filmmaker. “A simple production that entertains a wide audience.”
