TheBookGuide -- a website published by Stroud bookshop, InPring -- has just been rated #3 in a national top ten of bookseller sites.

(PRWEB) February 26, 2004--TheBookGuide -- a website published by Stroud bookshop, InPRint -- has just been rated #3 in a national top ten of bookseller sites.

Webuser, the UKs best-selling internet magazine, took a look at UK bookseller sites in its February 19th issue. Here is what they had to say about the TheBookGuide.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...this neat little site created by a Stroud secondhand bookshop has 'up-to-date information about how and where to get physical with old books, with a secondhand bookshop directory and a list of book fairs. Ideal for those who prefer real browsing."

Background

TheBookGuide grew out of my frustration with the lack of reliable information about where I could buy secondhand books in the UK. All too often, I would travel miles out of my way to visit a secondhand bookshop, only to discover that it had closed down months ago. Or Id arrive at an auction and find that it had been re-scheduled, and the book fair I always bought well at, had been cancelled. If things were this difficult for a fairly clued-up bookdealer, what must it be like for collectors, or people who simply enjoyed physically browsing books.

The other factor driving TheBookGuide is recognition of the crucial importance of publicity to the survival of any small business in the twenty-first century. In particular, the network of secondhand bookshops, which have contributed so much to the richness and diversity of our towns and cities, is in serious decline. Ours could be the last generation to enjoy the serendipity of real book browsing.

So the aim is simple. To use the immediacy and connectivity of the internet to provide book lovers with the most enjoyable and hassle-free book browsing experience. And, hopefully, help sustain a small piece of our culture.
