encryptX Corporation Secures Data Wherever It Goes With Release of SecurDataStor Version 6.0

SecurDataStor combines file encryption, information rights management, and direct mastering of encrypted CDs and DVDs to provide persistant data protection for home, small business and enterprise users.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) March 3, 2004 --- encryptX Corporation announced today the release of SecurDataStor Version 6.0. encryptX software maintains data security while information is shared in a collaborative environment. Among the new features are the ability to lock data to a recipient PC and streamlined management of permissions to access documents. Direct mastering of encrypted CDs and DVDs is also included in the new version. Three editions are available: Basic for home users, Premium for small to medium businesses, and Professional for enterprise users.

Key to SecureDataStors success is a server-less architecture that allows businesses to begin protecting vulnerable information immediately without costly investments in IT infrastructure. SecurDataStor is a response to increasing worker mobility and outsourcing, shielding data as it moves within and outside the network during the course of sharing and collaboration.

We are responding to specific requests from our business users with these additional features," said David Hunter, chairman and CEO of encryptX. The increases in regulations governing protection of consumer data -- as well as new standards of corporate accountability -- are driving companies to deploy improved data protection strategies."

A key factor contributing to businesses increased need for data security is financial losses from intellectual property theft, most often perpetrated by employees inside the company. According to a recent study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the ASIS Foundation, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, those losses were estimated at more than $50 billion in 2001.

The Basic Edition of SecurDataStor for home users includes features designed to protect against the growing threat of identity theft. The Basic Edition includes the ability to encrypt, compress and password protect personal files stored on PC hard drives or removable storage media, such as a Zip® disks. Users can also burn sensitive data directly to encrypted and password controlled CDs and DVDs. Secure file wipe capabilities prevent original files from being recovered after deletion.

The Premium Edition for small to medium business users includes a comprehensive set of permission control access rights to protect sensitive data that is stored on PC hard drives and file servers or shared with other users through email, FTP and PC removable storage media. Secure email includes a digital receipt mechanism detailing when, where and with whom protected business content has been shared.

Businesses are increasingly outsourcing critical tasks, replying upon outside partners and suppliers as part of their product development and sales processes, for example. Many of these users have realized that non-disclosure-agreements are insufficient. The real liability stems from sensitive business data that falls into the wrong hands, such as a contractor that leaves the organization after an NDA has been executed. SecurDataStors digital receipt notification provides an irrefutable chain of custody" audit trail for shared information.

SecurDataStor Professional will offer our larger customers some features that are entirely new to this marketplace," said David Duncan, president and COO of encryptX.

The Professional Edition includes an administrative utility called SecurAdmin that allows system administrators and users to create pre-populated user templates and permission models that enforce corporate information security policies. The administrator imports users to these resource files from Microsoft Outlook, or other MAPI compliant email systems. Because resource files can be saved and encrypted to a portable device, such as a keychain drive or laptop, users can securely use sensitive content while on the road and still comply with corporate security policies without having to connect to a corporate security server.

One of its enterprise-class features is the ability for SecureDataStor to lock sensitive information to a particular computer. Some encryptX business customershave shared concerns about trusted users copying sensitive business information from office PCs and then using that information in uncontrolled environments such as a home PC. With file and folder locking, that risk is eliminated.
