The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame aims to preserve numerous items from Veterans Stadium for use in a future sports museum, thanks to Brandenburg Industrial Service Co. of Chicago and the Phillies.

Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Preserving Veterans Stadium

In cooperation with Brandenburg Industrial Service Co. of Chicago and the Phillies, the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame is attempting to preserve numerous items from Veterans Stadium. They include some of the tall, black exit turnstiles, section signs, ticket window items, railings, lockers and numerous other memorable pieces of the soon-to-be destroyed stadium.

Brandenburg, the primary contractor on site, has agreed to remove a number of items as a donation to the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, prior to the stadiums scheduled demolition Sunday, March 21.

Veterans Stadium contains certain items like the aluminum railings and black, cage-like turnstiles that fans easily associate with the Vet," said Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fames Dave Harker.

With the opening of Citizen's Bank Park just a month away, the Phillies have been extremely busy. However, they have promised a number of items as well. Though as yet unidentified, some may be those, which remain from the Final Pieces" Auction and Sale that raised more than $700,000 for charity in early February.

With the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame now the de facto curator of Philadelphias sports history we did not want the Vet to go the way of JFK Stadium, Shibe Park and Baker Bowl. The generosity of the Phillies and Brandenburg will enable us to preserve the memory of the stadium for generations of fans," continued Harker.

The artifacts, more architectural in nature than memorabilia or collectibles, will be identified, logged and stored for the immediate future. They are part of the Hall of Fames long-range plan for a state-of--the art, interactive sports museum in the South Philadelphia sports complex area.
