Promotions Increase to Surpass Ad Spending in '04

Promotions will be hot in 2004, up almost seven percent from 2003, beating ad spending increases by a substantial margin. Thats the latest projection from Ad Audit Services, provider of ad spending share estimates to media for more than a decade.

Bayville, NY (PRWEB) March 13, 2004--The 2004 forecast projects U.S. ad spending to reach $249.1 billion in 2004, a 4.7 percent increase led by strong showings from broadcast -- television, cable and radio. In contrast, promotions spending will climb to $328.2 billion, up a sizzling 6.7 percent, powered by increased reliance on non-ad marketing by auto manufacturers and retail chains.

Some marketers are shedding advertising solutions in favor of promotions programs to take advantage of local or transient opportunities," said Kip Cassino, Ad Audit Services CEO. Whether they will be able to balance the benefits of advertising and promotions in their marketing mix remains to be seen."
