On Artist Responsibility

Its okay if we sell people cars or products. But boy, if you want to use your voice for socially constructive means, people want to give you flack for it. I find that interesting. Im not socially active because Im an artist. Im socially active because Im a responsible citizen of the earth. Your mother didnt raise you to be silent."

On Revolution

Its the uplifting of a collective consciousness, the collective spirit, collective culture. You know, everyone wants change in an instant. Unfortunately, man equates fast with good. And then that becomes the norm. Then you lose the attention thats necessary to be paid to the details of life."

On Race Politics

Having traveled the world, the world is quite segregated. We neednt kid ourselves. You know, I didnt make it that way. It was a situation that you and I have both been born into. Its part of the socio-economic structure of the human race, unfortunately. There were different Native American Indian tribes that were separated; there were different African tribes. There are different tribes of Hinduism that are vehemently opposed to one another. I mean theres so much segregation in the Black community alone. Light-skinned Blacks, dark-skinned Blacks. Theres Whites. Theres Italians. And then there are other sub-groups and sub-cultures."
