New bilingual safety website aims to make workplace safer for Hispanic workers

According to the bureau of labor statistics, fatalities among Hispanic workers are 10% greater than for all workers. There were 840 fatalities in 2002 for Hispanic workers, or 44 per every million workers. Compared to the average death rate for all US workers, of 40 per million workers. In North Carolina, for example, while deaths decreased by 10% from 2000 to 2002, Hispanic worker deaths increased by 10%. In some states where Spanish materials were distributed to workers, the number of worker deaths has decreased. Communication is the barrier when it comes to Hispanic workers safety.

New Bilingual Emergency Plan Available

The Bilingual Emergency Preparedness Plan, which complies with the OSHA requirements for CFR 1910.38 is available. According to this regulation, every business in the United States must have a plan. A written plan must exist if you have more than 10 workers. All companies must carry out training in Emergency Preparedness. This plan, available in printed form for only $25, can be filled out by hand. You dont need a computer. The left hand side is written in English and beside the English text, you have Spanish text. Instructions are simple and to the point. It can be hung on a bulletin board and used for training.
