Mesa, AZ -- Armed Females of America is asking President Bush and the US Congress to reject any attempts to renew, extend or expand the 1994 Assault Weapon ban scheduled to expire on September 13, 2004.
Extremists in the gun ban lobby have methodically exploited public confusion and ignorance regarding so-called assault weapons, and has misrepresented important facts, including their support from law enforcement.
Lack of credible support for the ban
Two studies conducted by the Clinton Justice Department concluded both times -- the public safety benefits of the 1994 ban have not yet been demonstrated".
The following testimony was presented to Congress on April 5, 1995 by Lt. Dennis Tueller of the Salt Lake City Police Department:
According to a 1994 survey done by the Police Marksman Association: 95 percent of officers dislike the ban on large-capacity magazines. 92 percent oppose the assault weapons ban. 93 do not like the Brady bill.
Why the assault weapon ban must expire
First, and foremost, Armed Females of America views the assault weapon ban as an unconstitutional intrusion against the right of all citizens to keep and bear arms ·Study after study has proven that the ban has not reduced crime. ·The ban has failed to reduce the average number of victims per gun murder incident or multiple gunshot wound victims, according to a study done by the National Institute of Justice, in March, 1999, titled, "Impacts of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban: 1994-1996". ·According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Statistics, in 1994, the year the AW ban was enacted, you were eleven (11) times more likely to be beaten to death than to be killed with an "assault weapon." ·Any gun bans only serve to restrict use and ownership to lawful citizens who don't have the desire or intent to misuse them. ·According to Philip McGuire of Handgun Control Incorporated, "[assault weapons play a small roll in overall violent crime.
There are many reasons people prefer to use these firearms:
·Ease of operation ·Reliable in outdoor conditions for backpacking, hunting and recreation ·Accuracy ·Valuable in many self-defense and civil disturbance situations where the police are unable or unwilling to provide protection [1992 LA riots, citizens used "assault" weapons to defend their homes and businesses
