The American Alliance of Service Providers announced today that WebLink

Software Corporation has become the first major sponsor of AASP and that

AASP will offer WebLink's WEBwise software platform to its members. The

AASP, recently formed as an organization through which independent Internet

Service Providers could band together to compete more effectively, feels

that WEBwise is an excellent product to bring Internet advertisers and

Internet users together in a positive, productive and user friendly manner.

"While there will always be premium, subscriber paid providers, WEBwise will

be one of the products that will help in the inevitable transition from the

user-supported internet service to the sponsor-supported service much like

today's commercial T.V. and radio," says Association President, Russ

Ferguson. "We are very pleased that they have chosen to support us and our

member ISPs."

The WEBwise user interface allows for almost 500 advertisers to offer their

goods and services to internet users in a discreet, non-intrusive manner

while also enabling the user to browse the Internet in a more comfortable

and logical fashion. WEBwise also features a set of built-in personal

productivity tools designed to help organize the user's daily activities.

"WEBwise is to the Internet what Windows was to DOS a few years back," says

Stephen Tunks, President and CEO of Ottawa-based WebLink Software

Corporation, developers of the WEBwise program. "With WEBwise, the user can

surf the Internet if he or she wishes, but more importantly, can also take

advantage of the many commercial offers presented in a logical, categorized

manner and have direct access to those which catch the user's interest."

Unlike banner advertising, the non-intrusive commercial messages presented

in WEBwise are viewed at the user's discretion. Once installed, WEBwise

allows sponsor messages to be updated regularly via the Internet, thereby

offering fresh information on a continuous basis. The program also offers

advertisers the opportunity to include sound and full-motion video, one of

the first in the industry to do so.

Russ Ferguson comments, "By offering the WEBwise interface, we are

accomplishing our objective of providing to our members "value-added"

services for their subscribers since the program is free of charge to the

end user. At the same time, we are assisting our members in generating

revenues that they could never obtain on their own. AASP can now present a

united front to the industry and provide a solid, viable platform for

national, regional and local commercial sponsors, while at the same time

giving users a useful, productive program through which they can enjoy their

computing and Internet experience."
