Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 15, 2008 -- The Georgian Association in the United States of America, Inc. will hold demonstrations in support of Georgia on Friday, August 15, 2008. The first rally will take place at 2:00 PM at Lafayette Square in front of the White House, immediately followed by a rally at 4:30 PM outside the Russian Embassy (2650 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington DC; corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Edmunds Street).

Representatives of ethnic Georgian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Polish, Azerbaijani, Turkish communities and American friends of Georgia will gather to draw attention to the grave consequences of the Russian invasion of the Georgian nation, implications for U.S. strategic interests in the region, and potential impact on other countries. The participants will advocate for accelerated Membership Action Plan for NATO for Georgia and Ukraine, and diplomatic and economic sanctions against Russia.

This is a decisive moment for Western policy toward Russia. The Georgian Association in the United States urges the international community to clearly recognize the danger presented by Russian actions to the stability of Georgia and the wider Trans-Caucasus region.

The Georgian Association is a nonpartisan nationwide membership organization of Georgian-Americans and friends of Georgia that advocates for Georgia and Georgian issues in the U.S. The organization was established in 1932 by the Georgian patriots who escaped Russian invasion and annexation of Georgia in 1921-1924.
