Dow Corning to present silicone crosslinking technology at FSCT Midyear Symposium, May 12-14, 2004 On May 14 at the FSCT Midyear Symposium, Lisa Honaman, Technical Support Specialist at Dow Corning, will present "Improved Flexibility of Bis-Phenol A Epoxy Paint by Crosslinking with Amino-Functional Siloxane Resin." Midland, MI (PRWEB) April 25, 2004--Dow Corning Technical Support Specialist Lisa Honaman will present Improved Flexibility of Bis-Phenol A Epoxy Paint by Crosslinking with Amino-Functional Siloxane Resin" at the FSCT Midyear Symposium, May 12-14, 2004, in Orlando, Florida, USA.
The FSCT Midyear Symposium is hosted by the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technologies. It will be held at the Hilton Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The focus of this years event is Crosslinking for Coatings: Meeting the Challenges."
Honamans presentation, which is scheduled for Friday, May 14, from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m., is part of the symposiums Alternative Crosslinking Chemistries section. The paper details work comparing modification of a Bis-Phenol A epoxy paint by a variety of silicon-based technologies, including amine-functional alkoxy silanes, a methoxy-terminated siloxane resin, silanol-terminated siloxane resin and a novel amine-terminated siloxane resin. Hardness, flexibility, gloss, solvent and chemical resistance, recoatability and QUV exposure will be evaluated.
Bis-Phenol A epoxy resin-based coatings are known for excellent corrosion and chemical resistance. Limitations of this class of coatings are poor flexibility, thermal stability and weather resistance. The use of traditional siloxane resins to improve the thermal and weathering resistance of Bis-Phenol A epoxy coatings is well known in the industry. Organofunctional silicone polymers have limited utility in providing improved flexibility, but create recoatability issues. Dow Corning has developed a new class of organofunctional siloxane resins as epoxy resin crosslinkers to provide flexibility with excellent recoat performance.
Dow Corning offers a broad array of high-performance silicon-based resins and binders, process aids, additives and modifiers designed to improve the performance of decorative, maintenance and other protective coatings. In addition to silicon-based materials, Dow Corning offers supportive services to meet the specific business needs of customers.
