Google Alert Announces Search Personalization Technology Google Alert Releases Revolutionary SightPoint Personalized Search Technology. Leading Provider of Automated Search Services also Unveils Case-Sensitive Searching TEL AVIV, Israel (PRWEB) April 29, 2004 -- Google Alert, the Internet's leading automated search and web intelligence service, today released SightPoint, a revolutionary personalized search technology. Hailed widely by the press, including the BBC, USA Today and Wired Magazine, Google Alert enables people worldwide to stay up to date with their interests on the Web.
Google Alert's popular free service tracks anything on the web by automatically running daily personalized Google searches and alerting users to new results by email, RSS or an online browser. Users include marketers, journalists, salespeople, lawyers, IT professionals, doctors, educators, researchers, and government employees, among many others.
The new SightPoint personalization technology automatically rates new search results based on their similarity to results the user has clicked on before. SightPoint uses Bayesian statistics, made popular by spam email filters, to identify useful information in a sea of background noise. The feature is now available on an opt-in basis to all users of the free Google Alert service.
Google Alert also announced today the release of case-sensitive and punctuation-sensitive search technologies. These features help users filter out unwanted noise by automatically removing any results that don't match the exact case or punctuation of a search term. Google Alert already provides users with full access to Google's advanced search features, including targeting by language, file format, country and domain.
"Our driving vision is to cut through information overload by providing a personalized service that connects people directly with their interests." said Gideon Greenspan, Google Alert's founder. "The new SightPoint feature is a big step towards this goal and will save our users even more time."
"We continue to improve our service to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding userbase," said Greenspan. "Having obtained Google's agreement, we are now in the final stages of preparing a premium Google Alert service for launch in the coming weeks."
