Winova Wireless launches Global Voice-over-Internet mobile services for European Cities. Winova's CitiWide division launches TalkON service to London Metropolitan Area. Dozens of EU cities are to follow, offering TalkOn subscribers the free Peer-to-Peer and deep-discount voice calls worldwide. (PRWEB) May 1, 2004--Winova's CitiWide TalkON service uses a Wi-Fi enabled handset, similar to a mobile phone, to place Peer-to-Peer and traditional voice calls anywhere in the world, from the London Metropolitan area.
London UK is the first of dozens of EU cities to be launched by Winova over the next two years, bringing practical portability to Voice-over-IP handsets. Winova and its strategic partners will also be utilizing other Fixed Wireless Broadband (FWB) technologies, to extend the useful range of the handsets to several miles. The handsets are also able to transmit data at up to 11 Mbps, allowing the user access to broadband data, e-mail, text messaging and digital radio, as well as MP3 music downloads and digital image sending and receiving.
Angus Clark, Winova's CEO states; " Winova has had to bring a number of technologies together to offer a compelling subscriber experience. We have had to enable wireless hotspot roaming through our RoamOn technology. We have also had to enable hotspot operators to 'register' their location through our SpotNIC technology, to be included in the network infrastructure, which is essentially viral in nature. We call it a Mobile Viral Virtual Network or MVVN. Where wireless access points are missing, we fill in the gap, with our own FWB Access Points. City businesses can also opt-in to provide a 'link in the chain',generating revenue and saving on their own cost of telephony and data services. The coming WiMAX standard will create even larger contiguous wireless regions adding larger and larger coverage areas".
CEO Clark, when asked about technology partners also stated;"We are working with handware vendors, Wireless Internet Service Providers, telephone exchanges and Peer-to-Peer Voice-over-IP client software developers, to extend our user base and provide call termination in more and more cities, towns and rural areas worldwide".
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology has enabled Internet-connected individuals to share data, pictures, music and other digital information in a self-replicating network. Each machine in the network is capable of receiving and sending data to other machines in the network. This has, up until recently, been the domain of fixed desktop computers. The recent surge in handheld computers, PDA's and Wireless devices, has created portability for the user of P2P applications, of which voice calls are the latest "killer-application", as users can talk to each other, anywhere on the globe, without having to pay traditional international call charges.
TalkON subscribers only pay when calling traditional landlines or mobile phones. When calling other TalkON subscribers, there is no charge for the call. Wireless access is free to users who make over 20 dollars per month of traditional calls over the network. Basic wireless access to all TalkON subscribers through Winova's RoamON partner program averages 10 dollars per month. CEO Clark says, "We are essentially building the telecoms company of the 21st century. For our subscribers this means low-cost/no-cost international calling, Wireless Broadband data rates up to 30 times faster than so-called 3rd Generation mobile phone networks, and the ability to enable small operators to participate in the revenue stream, while individuals and businesses alike enjoy drastic reductions in their telephony and broadband Internet access charges".
Winova Wireless is based in San Diego, California and London, United Kingdom.
