CarbAware Expo & Conference Announced for September 2004

With the growth of an entire segment of the food industry, the low-carb sector, an Expo & Conference is planned to showcase products and services while offering educational opportunities to consumers, healthcare professionals and the low-carb industry for September 2004.

FALLS CHURCH, VA (PRWEB) May 5, 2004 -- The Carbohydrate Awareness Council today announced the CarbAware Expo & Conference will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City, Virginia on September 16-19, 2004.

To date, no single exhibition and conference has been solely dedicated to low-carb diets and controlled-carb nutrition and also open to the public. "Consumers and healthcare professionals have expressed a strong interest in attending an expo where they can sample products, participate in conference sessions and learn more about the lifestyle," said Regina Schumann, the council's COO. "We have worked to put together a conference where not only the industry is in the spotlight, but also the science and needs of the consumers."

The four-day event will offer healthcare professionals certified, continuing education credit learning tracks designed to enhance their knowledge on the emerging scientific evidence; consumers will have access to general sessions packed with information about low-carb diets and controlled-carb nutrition; and the industry will enjoy the opportunity to showcase their products and services while participating in conference sessions geared toward growing the industry.

In addition to the conference sessions held from Thursday to Sunday, the event will also feature an exhibition floor open to the public for two days on Friday and Saturday. "Members of the Carbohydrate Awareness Council receive, as part of their benefits, free admission to the Expo Floor," said Bob Cave, the council's CEO. Non-members may purchase tickets online to attend in the coming weeks.

One highlight of the expo and conference will be the Carb-Approved Seal Certification Mark for foods, restaurant meals and raw material ingredients. "The expo and conference is an excellent opportunity for us to educate consumers, healthcare professionals and the industry about the certification process and the science behind it" said Dr. Gil Wilshire, MD, the council's President and CSO. "Product carrying the seal must pass a series of government-approved testing protocols that verify their metabolic carbohydrate content. We'll have a session in the conference to provide information about how foods are tested. We have access to a growing body of human metabolic data that is not yet generally available."

The expo and conference will also feature a Consumer Choice Awards for products and services and President's Awards presented to companies and healthcare professionals for outstanding service in the industry.
