ABCTE Offers $100 Savings for September, Aims to Recruit 300 New Teachers

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 3, 2008 -- This fall, jump-start your career--become a teacher! As America's children return to school this fall, thousands of classrooms will be without highly qualified teachers. To help meet the need for new teachers, the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (www.abcte.org) (ABCTE) is offering a $100 savings on its certification program.

To help address teacher shortages nationwide, ABCTE's goal is to recruit 300 new teachers this September. ABCTE recently celebrated several important milestones, including issuing its 1000th certification and gaining program acceptance in Missouri. More than 6,500 individuals have enrolled in the program and more than 50,000 have inquired about pursuing their certification through ABCTE.

ABCTE's certification program was specifically designed to attract more career changers to the teaching profession. Individuals can complete the online certification program without additional college courses, and while working full-time. Candidates for ABCTE certification must hold a bachelor's degree, demonstrate mastery on examinations of subject area and professional teaching knowledge and pass a federal background check.

Currently, ABCTE certification is available in elementary education, English, mathematics, general science, biology, special education, chemistry, physics, U.S. history and world history. Availability of certification areas and requirements vary by state.

ABCTE certification is recognized as a route to state certification in Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Utah. The basic program fee is $850 and includes advising, a customized study plan and comprehensive resources to help candidates prepare for the certification exams. Candidates who enroll in September can save $100 off this fee.
