Savoy Brown's Kim Simmonds Unplugged Kim Simmonds, the founding member of Savoy Brown, has released a great new acoustic cd, with some breathtaking guitar playing. (PRWEB) May 28, 2004--Long known as the mastermind behind British blues-rock beast Savoy Brown, Kim Simmonds has released a new solo CD Struck By Lightning.
Struck By Lightning, Simmonds' third solo foray, features Pat DeSalvo on acoustic bass, Dennis Cotton on drums and Mark Nanni on piano and is a glorious combination of blues, jazz and folk. An altogether brilliant journey through Americana music forms.
Kim Simmonds formed Savoy Brown in Soho, London in 1965 and since then has performed over 5,000 concerts, headlining such legendary venues as New York's Carnegie Hall and London's The Albert Hall. Along with his contemporaries Eric Clapton and Peter Green, Simmonds helped export American blues from the British Isles back to the USA and thus invigorate and change blues and popular rock sounds forever.
While Savoy Brown mines the crawlspace between electric blues and rock, Simmonds' solo forays have always been all acoustic. Said Kim, "My solo work is more of a blues-folk thing."
Simmonds' original solo music is a fusing of traditional blues sounds along with a modernist acoustic approach. It is a concept fully realized in the ghostly and percussive opening title track while jazz and folk forms are later explored, all hinged around great songs.
Struck By Lightning marks Simmonds' 39th anniversary as a recording artist.
