Janet Wolfe, Ph.D., President of Wolfe Laboratories, Inc. (WLI), was named Boston’s Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes the achievements of small business owners and their contributions to the Greater Boston community. “Janet Wolfe is a savvy businesswoman whose company demonstrated exceptional financial growth, management innovation, workplace excellence, risk-taking, and social responsibility. Janet’s vision and passion have enabled her to become a success story in Boston’s life science industry,” said Paul Guzzi, President and CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. “The award acknowledges the leadership and hard work that Wolfe Labs’ employees have executed together.”

WATERTOWN, Mass. (Business Wire EON) September 4, 2008 -- Formed in 1999 by Wolfe, WLI is a contract research and development company serving the biopharmaceutical industry. During its early years, Janet and a few interns operated out of a 2,000 square foot facility in Newton, Massachusetts. Presently, the company boasts multimillion dollar revenue and a staff of 30 employees at its new 21,000 square foot headquarters in Watertown, Massachusetts. "It is a privilege to receive this award from the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce," said Wolfe. "We have grown considerably over the past nine years, and we've found that collaboration with the Chamber has stimulated further success and opportunities for our company. This success is attributed to everybody at WLI, and I'm proud to be a part of our innovative team."

Wolfe was chosen from a pool of applicants representing companies from many different industries. Mark Leuchtenberger, President and CEO of Targanta Therapeutics, Inc. and Chairman of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, views the award as an inspiring accomplishment for small businesses in the biopharmaceutical industry. "Janet's success underscores the importance of the life science industry in the Boston area," noted Leuchtenberger. "Wolfe Laboratories is a key contributor to Massachusetts' thriving biopharmaceutical industry, and we congratulate Janet on this well-deserved recognition."

The award is the latest of several recent developments at the pharmaceutical development company. WLI tripled its lab space to accommodate Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) services and the expansion of WLI's in vitro ADME and analytical characterization programs.
