EXPANDS USE AND IMPACT OF PERSONAL DIGITAL IMAGES
Seemail, Inc. today announced the release of Seemail e-messaging software. With Seemail software, users can create and send still-picture-with-voice messages as a single file attachment using their present e-mail program. Since standard file formats are used, no proprietary viewers are needed for recipients to open and view them. Seemail messages can be received and viewed on both PC and Macintosh platforms, regardless of what platform was used to originate the message.
"Most e-mail users who send multimedia donÂt want to worry about the platform theyÂre sending to," said Carl Herrmann, President and CEO of Seemail, Inc. "They just want to hit Âsend and know itÂs going to work on the other end. We had already created an elegant and easy-to-use graphical user interface and we used standard file formats. The cross platform issue was the final hurdle and weÂve cleared it."
The Seemail application allows users to easily add voice or other audio to a picture and send it using their existing e-mail program. People can also use Seemail e-messaging to create unique greeting cards, announcements and invitations by scanning or by downloading pictures and sounds from the growing number of image and audio sites on the internet. It is changing the way people communicate with family and friends.
Forrester Research in a March 10th article entitled "Personal Rich Media Takes Off" states that "just as the Internet has changed the way that businesses communicate with consumers, it will change the way that consumers communicate with each other. It goes on to say that as bandwidth expands ".text-based e-mail will seem as archaic as black-and-white TV."
Personal rich media requires personal access to digital images. According to noted analyst Kristy M. Holch of InfoTrends Research Group, "There is already a strong trend toward sending image-rich email. Our data shows that nearly 70% of Internet-connected consumers have received an email with an image attachment. Nearly everyone today has access to an image source, such as the Web, a film digitizing service, or an image capture device. Already, over 33% of Internet-connected households have a scanner, around 12% have a digital still camera or PC camera. As capture devices continue to proliferate, there
will be more demand for technologies that allow users to easily enrich their communications with images and voice."
The past few months has seen a proliferation of websites dedicated to personal image storing and sharing, such has PhotoAccess, Shutterfly, Ofoto and a host of others. "Web based digital photo storage is growing in popularity," said Jim Sherman, Seemail, Inc.Âs CTO. " We expand the usefulness of web-based photos. People can download their images directly into our program, add sound and send a very powerful e-mail."
"The digital imaging revolution isnÂt coming, itÂs here", according to Paul Wiefels, a founding partner of The Chasm Group, a Silicon Valley-based strategy consulting firm, and Seemail Advisory Board member. "It is now commonplace for anyone, anywhere, to have access to personal digital images. Seemail e-messaging expands the usefulness and enjoyment of producing and sharing digital images dramatically by enhancing them with sound."
Advisory Board member and Digital Imaging industry consultant Jonathan Rawle concurs. "YouÂll be amazed at the power of a Seemail e-message when you receive and experience one. Then you'll know what weÂre talking about. The addition of sound is the key. ThereÂs nothing like it for adding a personal touch---something thatÂs been missing in e-mail since day one."
Seemail e-messaging software can be demonstrated and purchased online at http://www.seemailinc.com for $29.95. Sample Seemail greetings can be viewed and downloaded for sending to friends at the same site. The product is available for both PC (Win 95, 98 and 2000) and MAC (OS 8.1 and higher).
