Bones of Steel Revolutionizes Osteoporosis Prevention With New Bone Building Fitness Class and Continuing Education Programs.

Fighting the rising global epidemic of osteoporosis, Bones of Steel today announced the launch of their group fitness program and certified instructor continuing education courses. Bones of Steel aims to fight osteoporosis with programs focused on exercise and education. Osteoporosis is often called the "silent disease" because bone loss occurs without symptoms. The estimated cost of osteoporosis in the United States is $17 billion per year, growing to $62 billion by 2010. Both the injuries and subsequent costs related to osteoporosis can be reduced through the preventive measures that attempt to increase bone mass offered by Bones of Steel. A lifestyle that includes regular weight-bearing exercise is an essential part of building and maintaining bone density.

(PRWEB) May 28, 2004 -- The Bones of Steel group fitness program is a 50-minute class developed by a team of physical therapists. It is designed to help participants improve bone health and prevent osteoporosis in a fun, active environment. Classes will initially be offered at Asphalt Green on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The Bones of Steel Continuing Education Course is an intensive two-day course focused on teaching osteoporosis prevention techniques and bone building activities. Participants will review current research and literature on osteoporosis, learn how to implement prevention strategies and understand how to incorporate these components into a 50-minute class for their clients. The course, designed for fitness instructors, personal trainers and physical therapists will provide participants with the information necessary to understand the many changes that occur in the body leading to osteopenia and osteoporosis and will equip them with the knowledge and training required to teach the Bones of Steel fitness class. This course has been approved by both the American Council of Exercise and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America for continuing education units.

Both the Bones of Steel class and the Bones of Steel Continuing Education Course were designed by Dr. Marilyn Moffat and Dr. Amanda Hutton Parrott. The first Bones of Steel two-day Continuing Education course will be held at Asphalt Green on June 19 and 20th, 2004 from 9:00 am -- 5:00 pm both days and taught by Dr. Hutton Parrott. Registration is on a first come, first served basis and space is limited to 20.
