Team USA Football Gladiators Win Again! Team USA Football Gladiators defeat Stuttgart Scorpions 24 -- 13 in Charity Bowl 2004 Stuttgart Germany (PRWEB) May 29, 2004---In a hard fought contest the USA running game and tough defense determined the outcome in this game. Before a loud and enthusiastic crowd the USA offense took the opening kickoff and put together a sustained drive that took them to the Scorpions 18 yard line before quarterback Josh Black lost control of the ball and the Scorpions defense returned the fumble 82 yards for the first score of the game.
The USA offense drove back inside the Scorpion red-zone yet again and kicked a field goal making the score 7 -- 3. There was no score for the remainder of the half as both teams controlled the ball and used their kicking games in a battle of field position.
The third quarter kickoff resulted in a fumble by Tony Avella of the Scorpions and gave the USA offense excellent field position. The offense drove down to the Scorpions 6 yard line where running back Ricky Jenkins finished the short drive with the first USA touchdown of the game. Jenkins scored later in the quarter with a 41 yard run where he was nearly untouched by any Scorpions defender.
The Scorpions offense came back in the ensuing drive and scored on a 40 yard pass to tight end Sascha Wurster who had broken free behind the USA defensive secondary. It was a foot race to the end zone that Wurster would not lose.
The USA Offense took the ensuing kickoff and drove inside the Scorpions 45 yard line where the drive stalled. On fourth down punter Josh Black floated a nearly perfect punt inside the Scorpions 10 yard line. The Scorpions, with little time remaining to come back from a score of 17 -- 13 was determined to throw the ball. On third down and ten Scorpions quarterback Guenther Michel looked downfield for his tight end but USA defensive back Dewey Ross went up high for the interception and returned it 38 yards for the final score of the game.
In May of 2002 a team of American all-stars also visited the Stuttgart Scorpions and lost by a convincing margin of 62 -- 14. Head Coach Rudy Wyland was asked by the German Media what the difference between the two teams was. In 2002 the USA Allstars came to Germany to have fun. In 2004, Team USA Football Gladiators came to play football".
Scorpions Head Coach, Andreas Wengertsmann summarized the game by saying todays opponent was of another caliber than the prior two pre-season opponents. We were well tested today and can find many positive things for our team in this game. Perhaps it is not so bad having played and lost this game."
Team USA Football Gladiators is currently working on games for the remainder of the season. Negotiations are underway with Northern Germany for later in the summer and with the French National Team for a game in Paris sometime in November 2004.
