June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat" Month at the East Bay SPCA Kitten season" means adult cats get overlooked during the summer in area shelters. Dignified, mellow cats are outshone by their younger counterparts in the quest for a forever home. Oakland & Dublin, CA (PRWEB) June 1, 2004--From March to September, public and private shelters around the East Bay are assaulted with something called the kitten season." This corresponds to the time of year that female cats go into heat, virtually assuring they will find their way to a willing mate and produce up to two litters of kittens. With only so many potential adopters, the antics of young kittens sometimes overshadow their more mature, dignified counterpart, the adult cat. For that reason, Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat" month draws attention to the long-term shelter cats who are looking for homes.
During the month of June, the East Bay SPCA, which is represented by the Oakland SPCA and the Tri-Valley SPCA in Dublin, is offering a $25 discount on the adoption fee of all long-term shelter cats. Regularly $75, the fee is discounted to $50 for long-term cats and covers all of the cats current shots, vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and a free New Pet Health Check with an area vet within the first two weeks. There will also be adoption gifts for each adult cat adopted regardless of how long they have lived at the shelter.
The Oakland SPCA is open Tuesday through Sunday, at 10 AM, and closes at 8 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6:30 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 4:30 PM on Sundays.
The Tri-Valley SPCA is open Wednesday through Sunday, at 11 AM, and closes at 8 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at 5:45 PM on other nights.
