Summer of the Shark

This summer, it may not be safe to go near the water. . .or bookstores and movies for that matter.

(PRWEB) June 2, 2004 -- Book Expo America 2004 kicks off with the launch of best-selling author Steve Alten's MEG; Primal Waters, third in his series about carcharodon Megalodon, the 70-foot, 70,000 pound prehistoric cousin of the great white shark that escaped extinction by inhabiting the deep waters of the Mariana Trench.

We invite you to stop by the McCormick Place Convention Center (June 4-6) and Booth #3641 to visit the largest set of Megalodon jaws ever made, featuring hundreds of real 6-7 inch fossilized Megalodon teeth. The author will be on hand to sign books.

MEG; Primal Waters officially surfaces in bookstores July 1st. It will be followed with radio and TV interviews. The waters grow bloodier in August on Discovery Channel's annual Shark Week, airing the week of the 10th. That same week, the independent movie feature, Open Water is slated to hit theatres. And don't be surprised if a major studio announces its acquisition of the dramatic rights to Alten's 1997 original best-seller, Meg (Bantam Doubleday) sometime this summer. Larry Gordon ("Hellboy," "Tomb Raider," "Alien vs Predator") and Guillermo del Toro ("Hellboy," "Blade II") are on board to produce, with Alten's literary management company, Atchity Entertainment International.

Between MEG; Primal Waters, TV, movies, and the unfortunate shark attacks that occur every summer at the beach, it's enough to make you want to just stay at the pool, or use the sprinkler.
