First Novel of New Science-Fiction Series Set in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY (PRWEB) JUNE 3, 2004--Through the Gate of Horn, a science-fiction novel set in the Bluegrass of Kentucky, has recently been published by iUniverse, Inc.

A night of unsettling dreams, a mysterious painting, and a chance meeting at a science-fiction convention propel an obscure computer programmer into the adventure of his lifetime. Seeking the meaning of his dreams, he learns that they arise from persons and a place of ancient power hidden in the Bluegrass of Kentucky. He must find whether he shares with them their power-and their curse. In Through the Gate of Horn, his quest will take him far beyond the bounds of the world that he has known, into one where all that he believes will come into question.

Through the Gate of Horn is the first novel in the series The Dhitha Tapestry, dealing with the lead character's discovery of an alien, yet human people of remarkable powers living undetected on the earth and communicating with another world through Doorways that may be artifacts of magic, or of incredibly advanced technology. Future novels in the series will take the lead character, Timothy Johnston, to the other world and involve him in the development of his own powers, in political intrigue among three intelligent species, and in the choice to begin or to prevent a war that would engulf two worlds.

The second novel in the series, On the Wings of Dream, is in preparation and should be ready for publication by the end of December.

The author of Through the Gate of Horn, Alfred D. Byrd, has lived in the Bluegrass for more than thirty years and is familiar with the settings about which he has written. He has earned a master's degree in Microbiology from the University of Kentucky, where he is currently working as a research analyst in the College of Agriculture.

Byrd has previously published Thistledown, a novel of Southern Regionalism and Magical Reality set in Kentucky, with iUniverse, Inc.
