Hollywood Bowl Sphere Art Project to Launch, Featuring 80+ Artists

More than 80 Los Angeles artists are creating original works of art made out of pieces of the Hollywood Bowl spheres, originally designed by Frank Gehry. The Hollywood Bowl Sphere Art Project celebrates the June 25th opening of the brand new Hollywood Bowl shell, which will be the venue's fifth shell.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 3, 2004---On June 25, 2004, the Hollywood Bowl re-opens with a brand new shell modeled after the shell that served as the Bowl's stage for almost 75 years. To celebrate this grand re-opening, more than 80 local artists have created original works of art out of pieces of the landmark shell that was taken down in late 2003.

In 1980, large "champagne bubble" spheres were installed in the Hollywood Bowl shell by architect Frank Gehry. Pieces of these spheres, as well as a few whole spheres, serve as the unique canvas for the artists in the "Hollywood Bowl Sphere Art Project."

Artists participating include: Guy Dill, Ed Moses, Kenny Scharf, and Robert Toll. Special celebrity artists include Hollywood legend Tony Curtis, Jane Seymour, and Lori Petty. Many other highly respected artists as well as new discoveries are also contributing to the project.

The Hollywood Bowl Sphere Art Project is being organized by Global Branding Group, a Torrance-based company under contract with the County of Los Angeles. 10% of the proceeds from the sale of the art will be donated by Global Branding Group to Heart of Los Angeles Youth (HOLA), a local non-profit organization that offers fine arts, athletic and education programs to more than 1,300 underserved school-aged children.

And, in a very special collaboration with Heart of Los Angeles Youth, children from HOLA are also creating artwork as part of the project.

The Hollywood Bowl Sphere Art Project exhibition runs from June 22 -- July 2, 2004 at Track 16 Gallery in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica, CA. A public gallery opening will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004, from 5-11 pm, to coincide with the re-opening of the Hollywood Bowl that weekend.
