The former US Soldier served in Afghanistan with the 488th QM CO in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraq in the USA Express Touring Band under the direction of Sgt S. Richardson and Cordell Hall of the U S Army Entertainment Division in Fort Belvoir, VA. A fan recently said that an Amethyst is a delicate gem formed from sand, extreme heat and iron. She has endured all and is as tough as nails. Valerie has emerged from the Desert...an Amethyst, ready to perform again. (PRWEB) June 8, 2004--Valerie Day has music and performing in her blood. Valerie's grandfather, Michael Concannon of Danville, CA was a paratrooper in the 457th field artillery which is a part of the 11th Airborne Division. He was part of an historic rescue of 2150 prisoners which took place on Luzon Island island of the Phillipines at a place called Los Banos Prison Camp. They jumped at 7am, as the prisoners were going to be executed at 9am. They were able to overcome the Japanese guards and free all of the prisoners. He was also an entertainer in the US Army during this time as a singer and organized a group of minstrels who sang songs in the style of Al Jolson and uplifted those soldiers in a great time of need.
Both Amethyst and her grandfather were stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, coincidently - The events of September 11, 2001 strengthened her resolve to give back to her country. She took her keyboard down to the guard house at Fort Polk where she played music to uplift worried and concerned soldiers. They were missing their families and loved ones so on the spot, she wrote songs to go with the stories they were telling of how they met their sweethearts.
She auditioned for the USA Express Touring Band after a tour in Afghanistan where she was inspired by performances by Robin Williams and Joan Jett. Valerie couldn't get it out of her mind how comforting it was to have artists from home go out of their way to help the soldiers. She will be performing her song, "Just another soldier" dedicated to the men and women in uniform both past and present. This performance will be dedicated to her grandfather Michael Concannon, who continues to sing and uplift those around him with his Crosby like crooning abilities.
Her songs are an eclectic blend of new age piano and the unbridled passion of pure soul. She will be performing at Webers after the Laker Piston game on - 19312 Van Owen Street, Reseda, CA June 10, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Webers is a family style cabaret, often mentioned on Gigworld.com.
