Photography Studio Uses Lasers for Fashion Employing 3D scanning lasers, a fashion photographer uses high-tech to modify stage lighting after the shoot. Greg Passmore, a California fashion photographer has employed an exotic 3D laser scanner to capture the geometry of a fashion model, clothing and the surrounding set to allow for radical lighting changes days or months after the shoot has finished. The technique prevents expensive re-shoots and reduces both risk and cost to the client. (PRWEB) June 14, 2004 -- A radical new technique employing an exotic 3D laser scanner has been employed by a California fashion photographer to change the workflow of high profile shoots. The technique allows changing the stage lighting after the shoot is completed by capturing the complex geometry of the model, clothing and the surrounding set.
Greg Passmore, a San Diego fashion photographer, has built a studio using exotic and unusual technologies to leapfrog over conventional 2D photography. Using what he calls "Deep Photography", the methods go beyond what can be done with ordinary images and retouching programs.
Measuring the time it takes for laser light to bounce off an object and return to it's source, the highly detailed and complex geometry of a fashion shoot is captured along with the photograph. Pixels are augmented with distances and angles to create a flexible and powerful post processing capability. Calculations automatically produce a database of the angles between the subject, the camera and stage lights as well as critical depth information.
The resulting "deep" photograph can undergo radical relighting well after the model and sets are no longer available. Although primarily used as a risk reduction mechanism for clients, the tool reduces cost by expediting the shoot and can also be used for special lighting effects.
About Greg Passmore Photography Often shocking, but never overlooked, the photography of Greg Passmore captures the spirit of disenfranchised youth while producing imagery suitable for print advertising. Full digital workflow or traditional medium format film, as well as broadcast video equipment provide single source imagery production. The studio also offers full pre-press services, ad layout, and maintains a full staff composed of artists for image enhancement, design, makeup, hair and clothing. Two studios totaling 14 stages complete the facility, making it one of the largest studios in southern California.
