(PRWEB) September 16, 2008 -- Grocery Manufacturers Association (http://www.gmabrands.com/) (GMA) would like reporters and editors covering today's FDA Advisory Committee meeting on bisphenol A (BPA) that Dr. Craig Henry, chief operating officer for the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), submitted formal comments to the Advisory Committee on behalf of GMA (see PDF for his comments).
For further information on the safety of BPA, please also see GMA's recently released science policy paper, Bisphenol A (BPA): A Guide for Consumers, Policy Makers and the Media at http://www.gmabrands.com/publications/SciPol_Bisphenol.pdf.
In his comments, Dr. Henry stressed that FDA (http://www.fda.gov/oc/vonEschenbach/andys_take/bpa_the_science_evaluation_and_safety.html) performed a thorough, well-documented review (http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/08/briefing/2008-0038b1_01_02_FDA%20BPA%20Draft%20Assessment.pdf) of the available toxicological information and research using a sound analytical approach and that FDA's evaluation of the science on BPA for purposes of a safety assessment is comprehensive, objective, and transparent, with clear explanations of any failings in study design, conduct and interpretation in the reviewed literature.
