Bay Area Support Grows for Fundraising Event to Support Kuu

Local residents and merchants are banding together to raise funds and awareness for a single mothers fight against IBC and to help her 10-year-old daughter. The Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose to host event.

(PRWEB) June 16, 2004 -- The "Kitty's Love Foundation" is putting on a fundraiser in celebration of a single mother, Kitty Sanford, who is losing her battle against IBC, inflammatory breast cancer, to help her 10 year old daughter Kuuleilani, "Kuu" by raising funds to help support Kuu in the future.

The Children's Discovery Museum (www.cdm.org) in San Jose and a host of Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay area executives, merchants, and residents are working together to make this happen. Those who have been touched by the amazing spirit that Kitty exudes are hoping that this will help give Kitty some peace as she continues to fight the increasing pain and treatments that she has faced over these past 6 years.

Inflammatory Carcinoma, also known as Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), is an advanced and accelerated form of breast cancer that is automatically staged as Stage IIIb or IV, and is a rare form of breast cancer found in less than 1-4% of all breast cancer patients. IBC requires immediate aggressive treatment with chemotherapy before surgery and is treated differently than more common types of breast cancer. IBC is also not detected by ultrasounds or mammograms. It is the most lethal of the breast cancers and because inflammatory breast cancer is an advanced cancer, it has been associated with a poor prognosis (expected outcome). Past statistics have shown the average survival rate of inflammatory breast cancer to be approximately 18 months.

Kitty has survived and fought this disease for over 6 years now and is now facing the realities that such a long battle bring when her spirit is stronger than her body as the cancer has spread to her bones and other soft tissue organs.

"We hope to help Kitty with this fundraiser for Kuu while making the community aware of this untalked about form of breast cancer," says PR volunteer, Stephanie Piche, one of over 15 organizers of this event, (www.kittyslove.com), "By pulling together and asking for support from our community we hope to raise funds and awareness in a significant way while sharing the wonderful love that Kitty has for her daughter, family, and friends with others in the community."

Donations for gift baskets, silent auction and food for the event are being requested as a list of participating merchants will be available online at www.kittyslove.com and updated daily as more sign up to support this event.
