ECO ARTS - An Exciting Exhibition of Brazilian Art And Crafts

Unique wall hangings and mats hand-woven using recycled material for the first time in the UK.

UK (PRWEB) June 18, 2004 -- Distinctive art and crafts from Brazil will be on display at Art Central, Chelmsford Library, from 29 June to 2 August 2004. The Eco Arts" exhibition showcases, for the first time in the UK, the work of Brazilian weaver and painter Isaura Mattos.

Isauras concern for nature and recycling is clearly reflected in her choice of alternative materials. Unique and innovative, her wall hangings are hand-woven in floor looms using offcuts of polyester fabric made from recycled PET bottles. We all have seen PET bottles. Just look under a fizzy drink bottle to see the symbol . Its hard to believe that 17 of these large bottles can become one medium-sized wall hanging" says Karin Müller Tahir, organizer of the exhibition.

In Brazil 41% of all recycled PET is used to produce polyester, which is already being used for making T-shirts and other garments. Eco Arts use the offcuts, which would normally be disposed of and need recycling again. This is responsible art. You will be able to see and touch this material when you come to the exhibition. There you will also find information on PET recycling intended to bring awareness and highlight the importance and need to recycle.

The Eco Arts Exhibition will also feature wall hangings made of cattail leaves and paintings on handmade paper.
