Mozilla Foundation Launches Mozilla 1.7 Latest milestone release of award winning Internet application suite lays groundwork for next generation Web

The Mozilla Foundation today announced the immediate availability of Mozilla 1.7, the Internet application suite which includes a web browser, mail and newsgroup client, HTML editor, and Internet chat client.

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2004 -- The Mozilla Foundation today announced the immediate availability of Mozilla 1.7, the Internet application suite which includes a web browser, mail and newsgroup client, HTML editor, and Internet chat client.

Mozilla 1.7 provides an integrated Web experience that is safer and faster, giving users more control of the Web through key features such as tabbed browsing (which lets users view multiple web pages in one window), a built-in pop-up blocker, and junk mail controls. Mozilla 1.7 is targeted at enterprise customers looking to deploy the most stable, secure, proven technology and at the tens of millions of existing users who are running earlier versions of the Mozilla Internet suite.

"The release of Mozilla 1.7 shows our continued support for enterprise and existing deployments of our software," said Mitchell Baker, President of the Mozilla Foundation. "Mozilla 1.7 also sets in motion a series of product releases, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, that we have planned for later this year that will push the industry forward."

Highlights of the new features in Mozilla 1.7 include:

- 8-10% faster than Mozilla 1.6 in application responsiveness, web browsing, and email viewing.

- Better pop-up blocker that stops even more pop-ups.

- Improvements to Mail and News, including vCard support and Palm synchronization.

- New intuitive dialogs for managing bookmark alerts and cookies.

Mozilla 1.7 also includes numerous bug fixes and incremental improvements that make 1.7 the most stable version of Mozilla to date.

The technologies in Mozilla 1.7 will also power the Mozilla Foundation's next generation software products, the Mozilla Firefox web browser and Thunderbird, the Mozilla project's new email application. Technology previews of Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird were released earlier this week with 1.0 releases due out later this year. Millions of users have already switched over to Firefox and Thunderbird, which are riding a wave of industry, media, and end user praise for their innovation and quality.
