Photodynamic therapy or P.D.T. involves the application of Levulan, a photosensitizing agent, which is activated by certain wavelengths of light and can triple the efficacy of a normal photofacial or BLU-U treatment. All the same dramatic reductions in pigmentation irregularities, and visible veins that previously required a series of 3-5 IPL treatments can be achieved in as little as one treatment. Unlike IPL treatments without Levulan, photodynamic therapy with IPL can treat many superficial pre-cancerous lesions as well as superficial skin cancers while treating pigmentation irregularities, vascularity, and uneven skin tone. Pre treating the skin with Levulan makes damaged skin cells much more sensitive to light energy. This additional sensitivity allows for the energy produced by our IPL devices to be more effective in the elimination of damaged or dangerous skin cells. The BLU-U when used in combination with Levulan can, in a single treatment, treat pre-cancerous lesions without any discomfort or downtime.
