Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) June 30, 2004 -- Derico SilentRage" Dabney - poet, spoken word artist, and designer- has recently released his first book of poetry, Shades Of Grey (Ó 2004), released in June 2004. Dabney has been writing for approximately ten years, and has been performing spoken word for seven years. He is the Co-Founder of WordSpeak Entertainment/Literary Society, a group which is composed of poets, writers, and actors in Birmingham, AL, Starkville and Jackson, MS. In addition to being a writer and designer, Mr. Dabney has recently been credited with title of educator through his participation with the Upward Bound program where he served as an instructor of performance poetry (Summer 2004). Since his introduction to the art of spoken word he has performed at several venues in the southeast. Mr. Dabney is currently the host of On Stage at the Carver which is an open mic spoken word event that occurs at the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame: www.jazzhall.com , and he is one of the semi-final hosts for My South Speaks, a spoken word competition sponsored by Turner South scheduled to take place July 13-17 in Birmingham, AL.
