Ex-Microsoft Designer States PerfectDisk's Performance Improvements Top Diskeeper's PerfectDisk's Free Space Consolidation Critical Piece of Performance Advantage Gaithersburg, MD (Vocus) September 24, 2008 -- Raxco Software, the leader in disk defragmentation (http://www.raxco.com/) software, announced today that Balder Technology, led by NTFS architect David Goebel, has released a new white paper detailing tests that show PerfectDisk (http://www.raxco.com/small_medium/small_perfectdisk_professional.cfm)® provides performance improvements beyond those of Diskeeper® 2008 due to PerfectDisk 2008's superior free space consolidation capabilities. The comparative tests were conducted with PerfectDisk 2008 Professional, Diskeeper 2008 Pro Premier, and Windows Vista®.
The white paper, Impact of Free Space Consolidation on Windows File System Performance, concludes, among other results, that PerfectDisk 2008's emphasis on free space consolidation provides performance improvements beyond those of Diskeeper 2008 and the built-in defragmenter. Other observations include: * Free space consolidation increases disk and operating system performance. * Free space consolidation is a critical aspect of disk defragmentation. * If proper attention is not paid to free space consolidation, disk defragmentation is likely to not be effective. * If free space is not adequately consolidated, fragmentation will occur, and even newly-created files will be fragmented. * Free space consolidation results in less wasted disk seeks, significantly reducing disk access speed.
The tests utilized BAPCo SYSMark® 2007 for its benchmarking. BAPCo® (Business Applications Performance Corporation) is a non-profit industry consortium and its benchmarking tools are used by Ziff Davis Media among other computer press.
"We always encourage our users to test PerfectDisk against other defragmenters to see firsthand how PerfectDisk's superior defrag (http://www.raxco.com/small_medium/small_perfectdisk_professional.cfm) engine improves system performance," said Greg Hayes, manager of technical solutions at Raxco Software. "We are pleased to see the results from a firm with the technical reputation of Balder Technology that confirm our findings that PerfectDisk's free space consolidation is not only the best, but is critical to achieving maximum performance improvements."
