Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 30, 2008 -- On September 27, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 1440 declaring October as “National Work and Family Month.” Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Rep. Todd Platts (R-PA) co-sponsored the resolution, along with 20 other members of the House.

“On behalf of working families all across America, we are thrilled that the bill was passed by the House of Representatives,” said Cara Welch, public policy director for WorldatWork. “This shows that our legislators recognize the importance of this issue for all Americans, especially in this stressful economic climate.”

The new endorsement by Congress (http://www.worldatwork.org/waw/adimLink?id=28211) coincides with the fifth anniversary of this national initiative. “Over the past five years, work-life has demonstrated its value as a key business strategy. We encourage everyone who works – employers and employees – to use this annual opportunity to take stock of where they are on their journey toward work-life effectiveness,” said Kathie Lingle, executive director of Alliance for Work-Life Progress at WorldatWork. “As a first step, I encourage organizations to take the “Work-Life Effectiveness Self-Audit,” a simple assessment tool to help focus an organization's work-life programs to support employee productivity and engagement.” A copy of the Work-Life Effectiveness Self-Audit is available to the public by visiting http://www.awlp.org/awlp/library/html/selfaudit.jsp
