Cano Chosen by Home of Life Community Development Corporation to Lead Charge in Development Process

Home of Life Community Development Corporation (HLCDC) announced this week they have chosen Cano Publishing to lead the development process that will eventually bring a supermarket, youth training center, gymnasium, low-income housing and possibly a radio station to their impoverished West side neighborhood.

(PRWEB) July 14, 2004 -- HLCDC, located at 4650 W. Madison Street, was formed by Reverend Johnny Henderson in 1990. It is located in an Empowerment Zone and entitles the neighborhood to special considerations that might encourage the community to develop and prosper. Currently, the area is inhabited by a higher than average percentage of ex-offenders and high school drop-outs. There are few employment alternatives available, so HLCDC has been stepping up to direct and spur change. Jonathan Bittie, of HLCDC, explains that they hope the supermarket will bring jobs to the neighborhood. The supermarket will be located in a beautiful, albeit dilapidated three story building across the street from HLCDC headquarters. The youth training center, the foundation of which has already been laid, will offer GED programs, job and life training skills, in addition to support to ex-offender to reenter society. The gymnasium will be across the street from a Malcolm X College study center, and located on a corner, symbolically recreating the place usually filled by gang affiliates. HLCDC already offers child development and care service, job training and scholarship funds, but the new and rehabbed buildings will offer more choices and begin to physically reshape the neighborhood in a positive and uplifting direction.

Cano Publishing, an international company headquartered in New York but with an office in Chicago, will assist HLCDC in arranging for the economic assistance needed in the building process. Cano will also redesign the HLCDC website to showcase their many attributes. The website will present up-to-date resources, contacts, and information regarding services and events, in addition to possible hosting an online, live-stream radio station worldwide.

Home of Life Community Development Corporation is partnered with Cano Publishing Company for economic, marketing, and technical purposes.
