State of Texas Approves StateCE to Provide Online CE Courses for Licensed Medical Radiologic Technologists

StateCE, a national provider of online continuing education courses, expands its courses into healthcare with Texas-approved courses for licensed medical radiologic technologists.

Dallas (PRWEB) October 2, 2008 -- StateCE, a national provider of online continuing education (CE) activities, received approval from the state of Texas to provide online CE courses for licensed medical radiologic technologists.

"We have created online and home-study continuing-education courses that meet or exceed all American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) approval requirements," said Steve Trussell, founder and president of StateCE, based in Allen, Texas. "This is our initial launch into medical CE, starting with R.T.s in Texas, and then expanding the courses into other states."

The most important aspect of the CE activities is ASRT approval, Trussell said. In total, the ASRT approved three CE activities for StateCE. The courses are Radiography Technology Essentials, Radiography Anatomy Essentials and Radiobiology Essentials.

Based in Albuquerque, N.M., ASRT is a 129,000-member organization that fosters the professional growth of radiologic technologists by expanding knowledge through education, research and analysis; promoting exceptional leadership and service; and developing the radiologic technology community through shared ethics and values.

In many cases, states will approve a CE activity if it has already received ASRT review and approval. StateCE plans to expand its RT CE activities to 30 states before the end of 2008.

According to ASRT, radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They ; dianesmith@star-telegram.com; are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care. They may specialize in a specific imaging technique, such as bone densitometry, cardiovascular-interventional radiography, computed tomography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, quality management, sonography or general radiography.

In 2006, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that there were 196,000 radiologist technologists and technicians working in the United States, with a projected employment growth rate of 15 percent--a total of 226,000--by 2016. In Texas, there are approximately 19,000 RTs, all of whom are required to participate in continuing education to maintain their state licenses.

StateCE was started by Steve and Jeanne Trussell in June 2001, after spending almost 10 years in the continuing-education profession. By 2003, StateCE evolved from offering mostly printed CE curriculum for insurance professionals to more comprehensive Web-based CE for multiple professions.
