Storm King Firefighters Piano Tribute Soars Back for 10 Year Remembrance

Storm King Sacrifice, a descriptive piano remembrance written at the base of Storm King Mountain in memorial to the fallen 14 firefighters, made a strong return to the SoundClick Acoustic Piano and Funender Piano Charts on the week of the 10 year anniversary of the tragedy. Money raised from the sale of JavaMusiK cd's is being earmarked toward a Storm King Firefighters Memorial.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2004 -- Storm King Sacrifice - a reflective piano tribute returned to the Top 10 of 2 different mp3 hosting sites on the 10 year anniversary of the tragic story claiming 14 firefighters' lives. It reclaimed the #1 position on the Piano Chart at www.Funender.com and scratched it's way to #8 on the www.SoundClick.com Acoustic Piano Chart.

July 6, 2004 - Families, firefighters and residents in western Colorado paused to remember 14 firefighters who lost their lives 10 years earlier in the midst of a firestorm on Storm King Mountain just west of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. After the firestorm, the community made a pledge to "Never Forget."

Rifle, Colorado resident and JavaMusiK musician Jeff Van Devender attended the memorial service. The composer of the piano remembrance 'Storm King Sacrifice" remembers very vividly witnessing the sight of the fire exploding upon the mountain.

"Seeing the mountain from the opposite side from where the fire was happening I can remember initially thinking, 'Thank goodness no one is up there!'" Van Devender remembers. "The mushroom-shaped cloud just loomed over the mountain, slowly growing. Of course, once we arrived home, we learned of the terrible news."

4 years later Van Devender accepted a teaching assignment in a school at the base of Storm King Mountain. It was in this location that the song just seemed to flow out of his fingers. "The composition process happened so fast, I really have no recollection of creating it," Van Devender explains.

During the Fall months of 2003, Storm King Sacrifice grabbed the #1 and #2 charting positions in Piano categories at www.funender.com and www.SoundClick.com mp3 hosting services. "This is no small feat, as the competition is fierce," states Van Devender. "Each site hosts literally tens of thousands of songs, so it takes quite an effort for a song to rise to the top."

For one year, starting September 11, 2003 through September 11, 2004, proceeds from the sales of JavaMusiK cd's are being donated to a Storm King Firefighter Memorial. Van Devender has noted that while he didn't search this out to be a charitable cause, "it just feels like the right thing to do," he said.

"We Will Never forget!"

Storm King Sacrifice is available on the JavaMusiK cd titled Bending Chords - released 2002. Proceeds from the sale of Bending Chords and Ascend are being donated to The Storm King Firefighters Memorial fund.
