Groundbreaking 20 hour Television documentary on the history of Gospel Music begins pre-production. Series to shoot in Africa, Europe and U.S for national distribution.

(PRWEB) July 21, 2004 -- An extensive 20-hour Television documentary on the history of Gospel Music began pre-production today.

The series entitled, Gospel: Americas Musical Roots is about the history of Gospel Music and its impact on American life through the last 200 years and into the present. This multi-part production examines how songs, born in slavery and nurtured within the black church, exemplified a peoples struggle for freedom, defined a nation, and became a worldwide cultural force.

The groundbreaking documentary is a production of West Palm Beach-based nonprofit, Sanctuary Studios.

Gospel: Americas Musical Roots is also the story of America," said founder Jim Wicks. Until now, there has never been a Television documentary produced for a national audience that fully examines and celebrates Gospel Music as a significant artistic and heritage component of our nations history."

Gospel: Americas Musical Roots tells the story of a peoples great effort to survive and the longing to be free. Full production is scheduled to begin in fall 2004 with on location filming planned in Africa, Europe and the United States.

Producers hope to attract a top named entertainer such as, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman to host the project.

It is our goal," said Wicks, to help preserve Gospel Music by educating millions of Americans about the unique influence this style of music has had and continues to have on the social and cultural fabric of our nation.

Production of Gospel: Americas Musical Roots is made possible through generous contributions and tax-deductible donations.

Founded in 1999, Sanctuary Studios is a National Heritage Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Sanctuary Studios preserves and celebrates the work of gospel music artists and entertainers.
