TCL Mobile, Analog Devices, and TTPCom Cooperation Surpasses Ten Million Units Shipped of Original Design GSM/GPRS Cellular Phones Popular mobiles leverage Analog Devices wireless chipsets and TTPCom software HUIZHOU, China (PRWEB) July 26, 2004 -- TCL Mobile Communication Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of mobile phones, announced today that the company reached the milestone of 10 million units shipped for GSM/GPRS cellular phones designed by TCL Mobile and based on Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI) SoftFone® platform and TTPComs (LSE: TTC) protocol stack and applications software. This achievement was celebrated at a ceremony held at TCLs headquarters in Huizhou, China and attended by executives from each company. Huizhou, China is also the location of joint development laboratories established in March of 2004 by TCL/ADI and TCL/TTPCom and dedicated to the design of wireless handsets.
TCL Mobile continues to amass cellular telephone design, manufacturing and distribution capability, evidenced in a wide range of GSM/GPRS mobile phones based on Analog Devices SoftFone platform and TTPComs software, including the flagship TCL 818 camera phone, featuring integrated digital camera, two color LCDs, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and polyphonic sound.
Analog Devices SoftFone platform and TTPComs software have enabled us to quickly develop a complete range of handsets to serve many segments of the market," said Mr. Wang Kailong, Chief Engineer, TCL Mobile Communication Co. Ltd. The ability to add new features in software allows us to react quickly to changes in customer requirements, while meeting our cost and performance objectives."
TCL Mobile ranked fourth in the earlier announced second annual Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500; and it was the only high-tech enterprise that ranked in the top five for two consecutive years. In addition, TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited, the intending holding company of TCL Mobile after corporate restructuring and European telecommunications leader, Alcatel, have signed a subscription agreement for the establishment of a joint venture company engaging in the research and development, subcontracting of manufacturing, sales and distribution of handsets and peripheral devices.
This ten million unit milestone represents more than just a tremendous sales achievement. It represents a manufacturing and design capability that is vital for competing in the world market and realising TCLs goal of becoming one of the worlds top five manufacturers of cellular phones," said Christian Kermarrec, vice president, RF and wireless systems, Analog Devices, Inc. We look forward to working jointly together with TCL and TTPCom to achieve even more success in the future."
Tony Milbourn, Managing Director of TTPCom commented The strategic partnership between our three companies has enabled TCL, not only to lead the Chinese market in terms of innovative products, but also to reach the point where they are the handset brand to watch. If TCL continue as they are going today, I have absolutely no doubt that they will be one of the top five manufacturers in the world."
