"You can win the election, John Kerry, if do one thing at the Democratic Convention, but I bet you won't do it!" Says Leadership Expert Brent Filson John Kerry has an opportunity to take one decisive step at this week's Democratic Convention, a step that would win the presidency for him, according to leadership expert Brent Filson. (PRWEB) July 26, 2004 -- John Kerry has an opportunity to take one decisive step at this week's Democratic Convention, a step that would win the presidency for him, according to leadership expert Brent Filson.
"John Kerry doesn't seem to understand the first thing about what leadership communication really is," says Filson. Author of new book, THE LEADERSHIP TALK: THE GREATEST LEADERSHIP TOOL, Filson asserts that Kerry is being hampered by his delivering presentations and speeches instead of Leadership Talks.
Filson claims there is a hierarchy of leadership persuasion, the lowest and least effective is the presentation, which communicates information. Next higher and somewhat more effective is the speech, which makes a connection with the audience but which is still far less effective than the highest leadership communication tool, the Leadership Talk.
Filson says, "The Leadership Talk is a way by which the speaker establishes a deep, human, emotional bond with the audience. It has taken me 20 years of working with thousands of leaders of all ranks and files around the world to understand what the Leadership Talk is. Yet, it's really been in existence for thousands of years. Throughout history, whenever a people needed to do great things, one thing had to take place first, a leader had to gather those people together and speak from the heart. And with a recent New York Times/CBS-News poll showing that more voters view Kerry unfavorably than favorably, he has not been getting a heartfelt message across."
Brent's advice for Kerry at the convention. "Later this week, when you stand before the world to give the most important speech of your life, don't give a presentation. Don't give a speech. Do away with the teleprompter. Do away with the speechwriters. Do away with notes. Get out there away from the podium with a lapel mike and use the stage as your whole stage and pour out your heart and soul to the American people as to your vision for this nation. In short, give a Leadership Talk!"
When asked if Kerry would follow that advice, Filson replies, "I'm not holding my breath."
