Cano Adds Photo Flair to Chicagos Fiesta del Sol Cano Publishing Company will add some flair to the thirty-second annual Fiesta del Sol in Chicago by photographing the festivities and composing a presentation for to be shown as an advertisement. The festival, featuring visual artists, musicians, and dancers, runs July 29 through Aug. 1, 2004 in the Pilsen neighborhood. (PRWEB) July 28, 2004 -- What started off as a block party, has evolved into a nationally publicized event complete with corporate sponsorship and an annual attendance of 1.4 million. But unlike other festivals, Fiesta del Sol is alcohol and tobacco-free, and most importantly, it is till organized by members and leaders of the Pilsen community.
The Pilsen neighborhood has been a port of entry to immigrants. Originally greeting European immigrants today Pilsen is a destination of choice to Mexican immigrants.
In 1954 Pilsen Neighbors Community Council (PNCC) was built to serve the community. During the 60's and 70's PNCC became an organizing engine for social change. In 1972 Fiesta de Sol began as a celebration to commemorate PNCC's role in securing the city's commitment to building Benito Juarez High School. After 31 years Fiesta del Sol continues to reflect PNCC's desire for social transformation.
Fiesta del Sol makes training possible by providing a major source of revenue and by being a vehicle for leadership development. It showcases the best that the community has to offer while introducing people to the issues that the community faces in its quest for metropolitan equity.
