Carson City, NV (PRWEB) July 27, 2004 -- Larrea Biosciences (NASDAQ symbol: LRRA) has officially changed its corporate name and trading symbol to reflect its core business model, the commercial development and marketing of products based on patented extracts of the plant, Larrea trdentata. The Company has also retained LDMB Advisors, Inc., Chartered Accountants to conduct necessary financial audits for Larrea Biosciences Corporation.

Larrea is a 12,000 year-old desert shrub that has been shown to be highly effective against the herpes class of viruses. The plant has long been used in folk medicine by Native Americans and European settlers to treat conditions ranging from digestive disorders and rheumatism to venereal disease, bronchitis and the common cold. Studies have shown that the Larrea plant contains two kinds of compounds with potent antiviral capabilities, including flavonoids and lignans. These compounds also function as antioxidants.

Larrea represents a large, untapped natural resource that has extensive commercial development opportunity. As well as the long history of medicinal use by Native Americans of the Southwestern U.S., the utility of the plant extract is substantiated byte many years of modern scientific research, which supports the use of the plant as an important ingredient in health and consumer products.

Larrea Biosciences has purchased four U.S. Patents that relate to the production of extracts from Larrea tridentata and their utility in a variety of products to address viral and inflammatory conditions. The Companys current licensee for this technology, LarreaRx, Inc., manufactures and distributes Larrea-based health products throughout retail and direct marketing channels. Products are sold in retail outlets under the tradename Virox and through direct marketing channels under the tradename Shegoi. Virastatin gives rise to Larrea-based products that are readily absorbed into the digestive tract for maximum results and optimal safety.

Each of the brand lines currently consist of a dietary supplement, a topical cold sore lotion and a penetrating spray for the management of health. Virox products are distributed throughout the US through Tree of Life, Untied Natural Foods Incorporated, Select Nutrition and selected Whole Foods outlets. Puresource Inc. and Asenda Pharmaceuticals represent the products in Canada. Consumers can purchase Virox through Whole Foods, Akins, Chamberlains, Vitamin Cottage, selected Vitamin World and other health food retailers in the US. Safeway, London Drugs, Save-On Foods, Whole Foods, Capers, Overwaitea, Thrifty Foods and other health food stores retail the products in Canada.
