New Serial I/O Module Adds Terminal Emulation Capabilities to PicoServ Compulogic announce the addition of an RS232 serial I/O module to their PicoServ miniature embedded web server product range (PRWEB) July 29, 2004 -- PicoServ is an off-the-shelf, modular system and provides all that is required to enable an embedded Internet web server to be integrated into many types of system, providing remote control and remote access via the Web.
The high functionality of the PicoServ server including dynamic web pages and support for SNMP means there are many applications possibilities including home automation, industrial automation, remote sensing, remote control, SCADA and building control.
The PicoServ serial I/O module is designed to add from 1 to 8 general purpose RS232 serial I/O ports to a PicoServ system. Serial data received by the module may be read via an HTML web page in a web browser, in a Network Management System using the SNMP protocol or if an SMS gateway is installed, on a mobile GSM phone via a text message. It is also simple to send serial RS232 data to an external device using any of the above methods.
In addition to basic serial data input and output the serial I/O module is able to emulate a 25 line x 80 character serial terminal. In this mode a virtual screen image is stored in the module which can then be displayed in a web browser thereby providing a terminal connection over a network or the Internet allowing remote control or configuration of systems normally designed for direct connection to a serial terminal.
The PicoServ miniature web server module and associated I/O modules act as an Internet co-processor designed to be able to provide a web browser based interface in a small space, at low power, at low cost and with minimal design effort.
