The acclaimed New Mexico Photography Field School presents a new weekend photography workshop, Photographing Season’s Change: A Three Day Autumn workshop, September 30 through October 3, 2004.

Autumn in New Mexico. The mist of season’s change. Aspens and Indian Paintbrush fill the hills. Pinon smoke rises in the evening air. Red chili ristras rattle against the aged adobe wall. In the midst of a busy life – take 3 days out to celebrate this land of enchantment in one of its most glorious seasons, Autumn. Spend a long weekend with the Field School photographing the change of color, texture, light, and shadow. Surround yourself with the scents and sounds of the forests, the desert, the mountains and plains – become part of the intensity and beauty of this land of light and shadow.

Northern New Mexico is sand and sage, plains and mesas, flame colored cliffs — surrounded by sky and clouds that herald the change of time and weather. The challenge of the photographer is to capture the intensity and beauty of land, of light and shadow. This workshop is both a celebration and a challenge – to see the magic and beauty of the Land of Enchantment and to make your own images of this land: from the details of the adobe churches to the wandering stream under the brilliant yellow cottonwoods to the magnificent landscapes. Wandering over the hillsides and through the narrow village streets, we’ll have the chance to see a unique New Mexico – the essential land in its fall color and beauty. For three days participants will live photography and live New Mexico.

Now in its 18th year, the New Mexico Photography Field School is unique in its offerings: hands-on photography workshops in the Southwest’s canyons, hills, riversides, and villages. Participants are up and out every day to capture the light, color, and texture that is the West. Workshops are for the novice to the experienced photographer for anyone who wants to master photographic technique while exploring the enchanted land that is New Mexico.

Field School Director and Instructor Craig Varjabedian has been teaching photography for twenty-five years. His photographs are known for their interpretations of light and place in the Southwest. His works are widely exhibited and collected. Joining Craig for this workshop is historian and writer, Robin Jones. The workshop program based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
