Austin Independent Filmmakers Embark on Caribbean Island Feature Film Adventure

Wolfpack Film Group continues to make independent films in spite of economy and shrinking Texas Film Market. The prodigious filmmakers embark on a carribean adventure to film "Culebra Story," a contemporary drama with a supernatural flair.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 15, 2008 -- Producer Robin Blesch and several Wolfpack Film Group crew members departed Friday October 10 for a remote island in the Caribbean to shoot the independent feature film "Culebra Story" for Blue Paper Film Works and WPFG Studios.

"Culebra Story" is a high production value feature film independently funded by the filmmakers primarily by art grants awarded to the film's Writer/Director Nicole Elmer (A recent University of Texas RTF graduate), and product placement secured by Producers Robin Blesch and Jorge Sermini.

Riding the wave of new technology Wolfpack Director of Photography Michael Morlan, a prominent Texas DP and Owner of Austin Film Tools, will be shooting "Culebra Story" on the new RED ONE camera with Second Unit DP Mike Simpson. The RED ONE is a revolutionary breakthrough for filmmakers allowing 35mm post scan resolution to be shot digitally on hard drives while also using the optics of 35mm lenses.

Principal Photography of "Culebra Story" successfully began October 12th and will run through November 19 with a small cohesive crew of 12, and an aggressive 6 day a week shooting schedule. Production stills from the set will be updated as the shoot progresses, and may be seen on DP Michael Morlan's website here: http://michael-morlan.net/projects/culebra

"Our goal with this independent film is to create a true cinematic masterpiece that rivals films with much higher budgets. We've got what I consider an all star indie crew, talented Texas and Puerto Rican actors, cutting edge equipment, and amazing locations, but we've also got our work cut out for us. We plan to shoot on beautiful beaches, on a sailboat, underwater in the ocean, in Puerto Rico's mountainous rain forest, at many places on the Island of Culebra, and even by the old Spanish fort San Felipe del Morro; one of the locations Steven Spielberg used in his film 'Amistad'. Putting this production together wasn't easy; we've really had to hustle in the true independent filmmaker style to secure everything needed. Even though our budget is far lower than a major studio production we had to compete with four other higher budget films for local resources, including the new George Clooney movie," said Ms. Blesch.

"Culebra Story" is a contemporary drama exploring the complexity of human relationships, elements of the supernatural and Puerto Rican mythology. Hilary Weiss, an American documentarian played by Michelle Keffer, travels to the island of Culebra to document Puerto Rican migration patterns. She hires a local, Diego Cadena played by Jorge Sermini, to help with her documentary work. One night she accidentally witnesses an event involving Diego that is unlike anything she's ever seen in any other part of the world. Suddenly, her focus shifts from migration patterns to something far more compelling and potentially threatening as she unearths the secrets Diego tries to hide.

Ms. Blesch is proud to announce product placement of the brand new CalDigit VR drive, in the film. CalDigit has also provided aCalDigit VR RAID system for the post production of "Culebra Story." The film will be a case study for CalDigit reporting the HDOne's performance with the RED ONE Camera workflow. The CalDigit HDOne eight drive RAID system features an Intel XScale processor and 256MB of fixed cache. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and JBOD and can reach sustained speeds of 440MB/s with RAID 5 protection, and can also be used with the eLane-1ex. The HDOne uses RAID Shield, and ASTT technology ensures that sustained data throughout is maintained. For more information visit: http://www.caldigit.com

A few other companies including Goya Foods and the Austin company Sweet Leaf Tea have placed their products in the film or sponsored the film in some way as well. "Product placement from Goya is a big deal considering the fact that Goya hasn't done product placement in a film for over 15 years" said Mr. Sermini. Sweet Leaf Tea is currently launching distribution with Coca Cola in the Puerto Rican market. So, aside from placing Sweet Leaf Tea in "Culebra Story", it will also be available for purchase in San Juan starting this week.

The Wolfpack Film Group is a consortium of production companies, producers, directors, writers, filmmakers, and support crew members, and in only a few short years the Wolfpack has risen to prominence in Austin under Ms. Blesch by pooling their resources much like a studio system to make feature films, music videos, commercials, and more.

WPFG Studios most noticeable recent work includes the feature film "Anything for Now" currently in Post production, a slew of PSA TV spots with Lee Daniel and Save Austin Music, 47 global commercials for Match.com, a national commercial for Maidenform Bras, and a large modeling workshop in " Austin's Most High Tech Home."
