Emerging artists exhibit their Different Dimensions

Different Dimensions, an exhibition focusing on images and objects from the southwest, artwork in photography, ceramics and silver crafts, opens to the public in Laughlin, NV.

Laughlin, NV (PRWEB) August 12, 2004 -- Emerging artists Lorissa J Longfellow and Molly Barnett are pleased to announce the opening of Different Dimensions at the Laughlin Library September 5 through October 15, with an opening reception in September 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Showcasing their most recent works in photography, ceramics and jewelry, the exhibition is a collaboration focusing on images and objects from the southwest in artwork of different dimensions and media.

The photographs by Lorissa J. Longellow are beautiful and sometimes thought provoking. In explaining her new work she says, The history and beauty of the Mohave Desert inspired me to produce my latest series of photographs: 'Explorations of the New Southwest. Ghost towns, National Parks, machinery and cars left abandoned, and sections of old Route 66 are subjects that make up the images in the series. They are images that recall the past grandeur of the objects and reveal how beautiful objects become as nature reclaims them; in general, images that reflect the beauty of the desert in our present day." Lorissa J. is a member of the River Valley Artist Guild, Inc., along with other local art guilds, has won awards at local art shows for her photographs and teaches art history at Mohave Community College in Kingman.

The ceramic and jewelry works by Molly Barnett are often inspired by nature, itself, from lumps of clay, glaze colors, to rocks and gemstones, pieces of silver and copper. According to Molly B: Taking a piece of clay or silver and guiding it to its final form is a true joy for me. I like to think of my work as functional art and I believe that pieces become more attractive with use." Molly has been a potter since 1973, silversmith since 2003. Her work has earned awards at local art shows. She teaches Ceramics at Mohave Community College, Bullhead City campus. She is a member of the River Valley Artist Guild, Inc.

Please join the artists for an opening reception on September 10th from 4 to 6 p.m. Start your evening in Laughlin by meeting the artists as they celebrate the opening of the exhibit. Beautiful art and light hors doeuvres await. The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular library hours. For more information please call the library at 702-298-1081.
